Our daughter Toni died from injuries she received in a car accident in 1999. She was only restrained by an adult seatbelt which gave here the chest injuries that stole away her life. Had she have been properly restrained in an age appropriate car seat she may be here with us today.
Hi Leanne, I am … Hi Leanne, I am very sorry for your loss, the video made me teary. I am an Australian living in Japan. The locals in this area seem to have no knowledge of the dangers of not securing people and children in cars properly. I want to give a public talk to them and show your video if possible. Would you please be able to send me a link to an internet site where I can get a high definition version? Or email me one? Then I could show it on an overhead projector. Thankyou, Robyn
wow if she was only … wow if she was only in a five point harness she would be turning 14 years old this june. wow R.I.P hunny and happy birthday in heaven early.

how much does he … how much does he way? and how tall is he? if he can still fit in a car seat by weight and height then yes it is safer for him to still be in a five point harness. their is the Britex that goes up to 80 lbs and then I have the Graco Nautilaus for my daughter and that goes up to 65 lbs five point harness and 100 lbs back or backless booster and taht will only run 180.00 at walmart.
We just purchased … We just purchased Graco Nautilaus carseats for my neices but my 3 year old neice’s father has decided to move her to a booster and despite our pleas to put her back in a car seat he won’t. She just turned 3!!!
Extended harnessing … Extended harnessing DOES NOT cause internal decapitation. Nor is a booster more effective in preventing it. What prevents internal decapitation is keeping a child rear facing as long as possible. The AAP now recommends keeping a child rear facing to a minimum of age 2 AND 30 pounds. The law only says that 1yr AND 20 pounds is the bare minimum to Legally face forward. However it’s not safest. Many babies heads are still larger then their bodies, so keeping them rear facing longer is always best.
What a beautiful … What a beautiful little girl, I’m so sorry for your loss! I firmly believe in keeping a child in a booster seat until about age 8 and 4ft 9″, my 2nd grader still sits in his booster. But I do wonder how effective extended harnessing is past age 4 or so? I think a booster may be more effective as internal decapitation is a possibility with extended harnessing? There are many variances involved, but I’m finding conflicting information on the subject.
Amazing. I sent it … Amazing. I sent it right off to the parents of my 14 month-old grandson, Darby. I had no idea where this video was going, and it broke my heart. Thanks for sharing this.
i just wanted 2 let … i just wanted 2 let you know the Chicco keyfit 30 is a rear facing carseat until 2 years of age or 30lbs. After seeing so many vids like this one we paid the 160 bucks and bought it. AND it is so worth the money not only to save your kids life but it is good quality no problems with it.
ok this touched me … ok this touched me so much….and also I think maybe helped me..right now my 4yr old is in a boster seat that uses the adult seat belt and i wounder how safe is that really…i think i might be looking for somthing safer
Sunshine Kids … Sunshine Kids Radian goes to 65 or 80 lbs, Evenflo Triumph Advance to 50, Cosco Apex to 65, Graco Nautilus to 65 lbs. There are a lot more options now, thankfully!
hi, im so sorry to … hi, im so sorry to hear about your loss , she was very pretty and we share the same name mine is also toni. when i have children i will always remeber this thank you
so sorry!
I am heart broken … I am heart broken for your loss. I was blessed to have a friend who is a carseat tech & educated me before my son was born. I had my son rear facing til he was 18 months when he was too tall for his seat rear facing. He just turned 7 on 3/21/08 and will be in his Britax Husky, a 5 point harness for atleast 1 more year. It is sad that ONLY Britax makes a life saving 5 point carseat for children over 45 pounds. I wish more companies would follow Britax example. Many prayers to your family.
I am sorry for your … I am sorry for your loss i hope more people see this video and know how preious children are . I have seen so many children unseatbelted and when i have made a comment out of my car when pulled up next to them they abuse me. so wrong!!!!!!
i am so sorry for … i am so sorry for your loss! i have a 6m old and was just wondering when the soonest i could turn him forward facing was. thanks to videos like yours, we have decided to keep him rear facing until he reaches 35lbs. thank you so much!
After reading all … After reading all the information on the Belletoni Association website, reading the very sad stories about Belle and Toni I have seriously changed my mind about the next child restraint I purchase. People drive around every day with their children incorrectly restrained and don’t realise how unsafe it is until the worst happens. Unfortunately then it is too late. I don’t want to be one of these people. Thank you to the Broadhead and Perry families for providing this information.
I’m so sorry for … I’m so sorry for your loss. as a paramedic i see too many kids seriously injured or killed bcuz they were not properly restraint or were not in proper carseats, i sometimes wonder what is wrong w/ the parents, cant they c that the carseat is too small/large for the child? in ur case it wasn’t fault in the late 90′s carseat laws only really applied to babies under 12 months. i just wanted to thank you for putting this out there to warn other parents, and to possibly save other children’s lives.
Laws change yearly, … Laws change yearly, up to you to keep up. Alot has changed in child safety. Want your child to be safe in ANY car seat(infant, conv., booster, etc.) make sure:
1 seat fits in your car appropriately
2 child fits height & weight perameters, fits well in seat. ALL seats have perameters.
3 child is properly restrained in seat
Then child will be as safe as godly possible. Free car seat/booster check at your local hospital or fire dept.
Sorry but I have to … Sorry but I have to disagree with you. Toni WAS wearing a seatbelt & IT WAS LEGALLY allowed for her age & her size
In 1999 when Toni died The law said after 12 months she could sit in an adult seatbelt. Unlike the last 3 or 4 yrs, where the child restraints have been very much in the media. Toni had only come out of her 5 pt harness seat the previous week
We have just filmed a tv ad with BelleToni. If the Government had put similar warnings out in 1999,Toni would be here today.
First I wanna say … First I wanna say I’m sorry for your loss but I don’t see how you can say you never had a warning. I think we were raised with warnings,,,ALWAUS WEAR YOU SEATBELT & the age fitting ones….
i lost my boyfriend … i lost my boyfriend in a car accident he was just getting a ride home and all of a sudden a car came out of nowhere and hit his friends bumper and he flung forward and hit his head on the back of the passenger seat. He died the next morning. I miss him so much i dont want anyone else to go thru what i had to go thru. please be safe.
