can you put a childs car seat in the front of a lorry?
My friends is wanting to go down to london with her son and partner to make a drop off for his company. But her son is only 3. It would be to drive down in a lorry. is it safe and legal to put a childs car seat forward facing in the lorry?
In a nutshell, if the lorry only has 2 seats – as the majority have, then the answer is no, as there has to be an extra seat to accommodate the 3rd person. Some 7.5 tonne trucks have a 3rd, central seat, but these are in the minority.

Yes, if it can be properly fitted the same as with a car.

If the seat has the proper ISO FIX mountings then it can be done safely. BUT there are legal implications and if these are ignored then carrying a child and other adult passenger may get the driver sacked and he’ll also get an endorsement and fine. This will make it hard to get another driving job.
There are almost certainly company rules about carrying passengers in their vehicles. If he carries them without permission then he faces instant dismissal. That means literally on-the-spot without notice, and there won’t be any redress by union or Industrial Tribunal action.
The lorry is probably not insured for passengers unless they are company employees who are travelling on company business. If the police see the mother and child then they may stop the lorry and prosecutions will almost certainly follow – and he’ll still be sacked.
