Can you install a carseat with a shoulder belt and no lap belt?
I am thinking about buying a ford explorer sport. It doesn’t have a middle seat in the back just two seats with should belts not just a lap belt in the middle. How do I install a rearfacing carseat with just a shoulder belt?

Nope. You have to use the lap belt. Don’t use the seat in the middle. Use the one on either side.
Contrary to popular belief, there is no safe place in a car. The idea that the middle seat is safer is truly nonsense. Makes no difference in a rollover. Just ask the infant who died in the rollover at my exit 3 weeks ago. Oh, wait. Can’t. She died in the middle seat.

Yes, you can. It’s a little hard to explain in just words though – your car seat should come with instructions and diagrams to show you how it works. Basically the belt goes across the front of the seat – sort of over the baby’s lap – and hooks under the hooks on the car seat, buckles in, and then the shoulder belt goes back across the same way. If you are using a car seat base, you would put the strap through the holes and buckle it in on the other side the same as with a lap belt. Again, the car seat should have better instructions for this. Often there is a sticker with diagrams and instructions on the side of the seat itself.

You can install the car seat with the middle strap belt. When you out baby into the car, just move the middle seat belt over her car seat, so its not in her way!.
If you are buying a new car, see if the middle seat has car sear latches? My car sear has "car seat latches"…I dont use a seat belt strap at all..
and please, put your baby in the middle. Putting them on either side of the car is dangerous. IF you were to get side swapped from someone, your baby would die.

If it has shoulder belts they should have the lap belt across the bottom also right? If you are using the base with the seat you just instal it the same way you would with only a lap belt and just leave the shoulder strap against the seat or you could pull it up and around the head rest.
